Application Purpose and Scope
This document covers the setup of HP DL380 G6/G7 servers.

Installation Intel PCI Gigabit Ethernet Card
Cover Removal
The HP DL380 G6/G7 server case is removed by pulling the cover removal level upwards and towards the rear of the server.

The cover can then be lifted off the case.

Back Plane Removal
The backplane is removed, using the included tool, by loosening the three thumb screws, using your fingers to fully unscrew the thumb screws, and lifting the backplane from the chassis with the blue handled levers located on the left and right of the backplane.

Be sure to replace the tool in the holder after the screws are loosened.

PCI Card Installation
To install the PCI card, place the backplane upside down on the table. Using your fingers, carefully remove the blue cover lock by unlatching the clip at the bottom and pulling the lock upwards. Remove the slot cover by sliding to the left, and lifting out.

Insert the PCI card by carefully lining up the PCI interface with the slot in the backplane. Note that there is a cap in the card edge that corresponds to a key in the PCI slot. Press the card fully into the PCI slot. The card slot cover should be aligned with the blank for slot #2. You can then reinstall the blue cover lock by inserting until it latches.

Reinstall Backplane
Reinstall the backplane by aligning the backplane riser card edge with the slot slot in the motherboard. Just like the PCI card, the riser card and slot are keyed. Press the backplane down, ensuring that the riser card is fully inserted, and the keys on the edge of the backplane are fully aligned and inserted on the side of the case.

In a single card install, mark the interface on the left as "5" and the interface on the right as "6". This will allow the card to be labeled as indicated in CDI/RSI.

Reinstall Cover
Reinstall the cover by aligning the cover to the case, with the lever fully up. When the cover is fully aligned, push the lever forward and down, which will cause the case to slide forward and lock into place.

Firmware Setup
BIOS Setup
The BIOS settings are required to enable field service, in case of server issues. We will want to set the BIOS Serial Console to use COM 1 and use 9600 baud.

In order to get into the BIOS setup, a keyboard and monitor must be connected. The keyboard can be either a PS/2 style, or USB style keyboard. The monitor can be any VGA-style monitor.

To get into the BIOS Setup, power on the server and press the "F9" key on the keyboard when the option appears. This will be after the "HP" logo is displayed and the memory is checked. The server will display "F9 = Setup" when it is ready, and will display "F9 Pressed" when the key is successfully pressed.

Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to navigate to "BIOS Serial Console & EMS" menu item, and press "Enter".

Use the arrow keys to highlight the "BIOS Serial Console Port" menu item, and press "Enter". Use the arrow keys to highlight the "COM 1" item, and pres "enter"

Use the arrow keys to highlight the "BIOS Serial Console Baud Rate" menu item and pres "Enter. Use the arrow keys to highlight the "9600" menu item and press "Enter".

Press "Esc" key twice to exit the BIOS Setup Menu, and press the "F10" key to confirm. The system will then reset and reboot.

iLO Setup
RAID Setup
The RAID must be setup for 1+0 configuration. The server often comes preconfigured with this setting.

If the server displays a message to the right of the "HP Smart Array" dialogue that says "1 Logical Drive", you can skip this setting.

To get into the RAID configuration utility, press the "F8" key when prompted after the "HP Smart Array" dialogue appears.

You may Create, View and Delete the Logical Drive from the main menu. If there is already a logical drive configured, you do not need to do anything in the utility and should exit by pressing the "Esc" key on the keyboard. To create a logical drive, use the arrow keys to highlight the "Create Logical Drive" menu item and press the "Enter" key.

The create menu, as displayed below, will default to RAID 1+0. In this screen, you will most likely be able to use the default settings. You can press the "Enter" key to continue.

You will be asked to confirm and safe the selected configuration. Verify that the configuration appears as below, and press the "F8" key.

After this configuration is saved, you can press the the "Esc" key to exit the RAID configuration utility.

Server Software Installation
OS Installation
To install the OS on the server, you must have the server connected to the network, and have the routers and switches configured for network connectivity. The Boot CD contains just enough of the installation process to boot the server, configure the network interface on the server, and start a network installation.

Open the CD tray on the server by pressing the "Eject" button.

Insert the CD into the tray, and slide the tray closed. You may have to reset or power cycle the server if it has already tried to boot.

When the server boots from the CD, it will display a "Cobbler" boot menu. There is only one menu item, and the server will boot automatically after 20 seconds. You MAY press the "Enter" key to bypass the timer.

After the menu is selected, the server will finish booting to the installation program, and begin the installation process. At this point, the process is completely automated.

If an error occurs, the the installation process will not complete. The error must be corrected, and tried again. Most errors are due to network connectivity. Please ensure that the network is configured correctly, and the server is connected to the switch on port "1".

When the OS installation is complete, the server will automatically eject the CD and reboot. You should remove the CD to ensure that the server OS does not get reinstalled the next time it boots.

OS/IP Configuration
