This document covers the installation of HP DL380 G6 servers.

Installation of mounting rails
23 inch 2-post Installation
The HP DL380 G6 servers are set up for 19 inch 4-post installations. Installing in a 23 inch 2-post rack will require some adapters, but this should not cause any adverse stability or installation security concerns.

Installation of 23 inch to 19 inch adapters
First, we will need to install 23 inch to 19 inch reducer adapters. These will need to be mounted to the front and back of the 2-post rack. See pictures.

Installation of 2-post to 4-post adapters
After the 23 inch to 19 inch reducer adapters are installed, the 2POST-2UKIT can be installed. One adapter will be installed to each reducer adapter. This will create a center-mount installation for the server. The adapters are installed so that the square holes are facing out, and the round holes are attacked with screws to the reducer adapters. See Pictures

Installation of the HP Server rails
The HP server rails snap into the square holes of the 2POST-2UKIT adapters. No additional mounting hardware is required. See pictures.

19 inch 2-post Installation
The installation of the HP DL380 G6 server into a 19 inch 2-post rack is identical to the installation into a 23 inch 2-post rack, except the 23 inch to 19 inch reducer adapters are not required. See above procedure.

19 inch 4-post cabinet
Installation of the HP Server rails into 4-post cabinet
Installation into a 4-post cabinet will differ depending on the type of rails that are installed in the cabinet. Fortunately, the HP server rails will accommodate both square hole rails traditionally found in data centers, as well as the threaded rails found elsewhere.

Installation into square hole rails
The HP server rails snap into the square holes, similar to the 2POST-2UKIT detailed above. No additional mounting hardware is required. Pictures from instructions above.

Installation into threaded rails
It the rail is to be installed in a cabinet where the rails are threaded, we will need to modify the rails slightly. The lugs on the ends of the rails need to be removed. This will require the use of a screwdriver. See pictures.

Once the lugs have been removed, a screw may be used to attach these servers rails to the threaded rail in the cabinet. See pictures.

If using 12x24 screws, you will need to drill the mounting holes to 7/32 inch. 10x32 screws do not require the enlarging of the holes. Do not use large than 7/32 inch drill bit, as this will break the rails.

Installation into 23 inch 4-post cabinet
The installation of the HP DL380 G6 server rails into a 23 inch 4-post cabinet is identical to the installation into a 19 inch 4-post cabinet, except that is requires the installation of 23 inch to 19 inch reducer adapters on the front and back rails.

Installation of 23 inch to 19 inch reducer adapters
Mount the 23 inch to 19 inch reducer adapters to the front and back rails in the cabinet. See photo.

Mounting the rails into 23 inch cabinet
See above procedure for mounting rails into 19 inch 4-post cabinet. Also see picture below.

Installation of HP Server
Removal of the slide rail
The slide rail is removed from the rack-mounted rail in order to attach it to the server. To remove the rail, you slide it out until it stops, and press the rail release button. See Pictures.

Installation of rail to HP Server
This rail is then snapped into place on the server. No screws or additional mounting hardware is needed. See pictures.

Installation of HP Server into rack-mounted rails
Once the slide rail is mounted to the HP server, the server slides into the rack-mounted rail portion. This may take two people to do safely, depending on the installation location, as the servers are quite heavy. Once the HP server is pushed completely into position, it will snap securely into the end of the rack-mounted rail. In order to pull the server out, there are two levers that must be pulled to release the server. See pictures.
